VILLAGES OF WELLINGTON
SWIMMING POOL RULES
I. OPERATION
The pool address is 1701 Wellington Village Road.

1. Periods of Operation – The pool season begins on the Saturday of Memorial Weekend and continues through Monday of Labor Day Weekend. Villages of Wellington staff reserves the right to change the opening and closing dates should circumstances dictate.
2. Pool Hours - The pool will be open during the hours set each year by Villages of Wellington Pool Staff. Operation hours for the summer of 2008 will be:
Sunday – 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Thursday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday - 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Monday – 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Pool will be closed Monday morning for routine maintenance.
3. Change of Operation Hours - Hours of the pool operation will be shortened during August as staff returns to school or at any time during the season when such action is in the interest of safety or is dictated by mechanical or staffing problems.
4. Adult Swim- This occurs the last 10 minutes of each hour. Swimmers under 16 years of age must exit the pool. Children who are not crawling or walking may remain in the pool with a parent during adult swim. LIFEGUARDS UTILIZE THIS TIME FOR BREAKS AND ARE NOT ON DUTY WATCHING THE POOL.
5. Family Swim- This occurs during the last hour the pool is open each evening. Children under 16 are allowed in the pool at this time only when directly supervised by their parents. Lap swimmers will have priority use of the pool during this hour. Lifeguards will remain at the pool, but will be performing closing activities as deemed necessary. Parents are advised that a lifeguard may not be stationed at the pool for the entire “adult swim” period.
6. Lifeguards must be 16 years of age or older and be fully qualified for the position. Possession of an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training card will be required. Pool personnel may offer swim lessons privately, but the lessons/program are not affiliated with the pool. Arrangements for these lessons will be made by the individual(s) concerned.
7. Technical maintenance and upkeep of the pool and all attendant equipment will be provided by staff or a professional pool service when service is considered necessary and is beyond the capability of regularly employed personnel. Personnel, in conjunction with the professional pool service, will maintain the pool in such a manner as to insure that it meets with the highest standards of health and safety.
II. GENERAL RULES
SIGN-IN: Each member will be required to sign the pool register and show his/her CURRENT POOL CARD to the guard at the gate. Lost pool cards may be replaced for $5.00 each by members in good standing. Members must either supply a current pool card or pay $5 for a new pool tag upon entering the pool each time. MEMBERS MUST BE IN GOOD STANDING (PAID DUES) IN ORDER TO RECEIVE POOL CARDS AND ENTER THE POOL AREA. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.
1. Members in Good Standing: Lifeguards and pool managers have the authority to ask anyone whose name does not appear on the “Villages of Wellington Members in Good Standing List” to leave the pool area.
2. Guest Rules- Member will be required to sign the name and address of their guest or guests upon the pool register. A fee of $1.00 per day per guest is charged for each guest. This amount should be paid to a lifeguard upon entering the pool deck (exact change is helpful). Baby-sitters currently on-duty for pool members should sign in but are not required to pay a guest fee. A limit of five (5) guests per resident family per day will be observed. ALL GUESTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT HOST MEMBER WHO REMAINS THROUGHOUT THEIR STAY AT THE POOL. Please note: individuals caught stealing guest fees will be reprimanded by pool staff and/or LRPD. Stealing is a serious matter with serious consequences and will not be tolerated.
3. Parties - All pool rules apply to parties. Maximum pool occupancy is 121
Semi-private Parties - Members in good standing wishing to use the pool and/or reserve a table for small birthday parties or other groups of from 5 to 20 people should make arrangements to use the pool between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; all semi-private parties must end by 6:00 p.m. Groups of more than 20 must hold after-hour parties. Checks should be made payable to "The Villages of Wellington Community Association” and given to pool personnel prior to the start of the party.
a) A $1.00 per person fee will be collected for all guests. This includes swimmers and non- swimmers, children and adults.
b) A non-refundable $25.00 fee for semi-private parties will be collected when the party is booked. This fee, in addition to all guest fees, must be paid before a semi-private party may begin. An additional refundable $25.00 will be collected before the party begins, and will be refunded, provided that the party area has been cleaned. Refunds are made at the discretion of the pool manager.
c) To reserve a space for a semi-private party, call the pool office at 217-9976 and speak with or leave a message for the pool manager, or email villagespool@gmail.com. Please remember that $50 will need to be collected before your party can be reserved.
d) Pool rules will apply for semi-private parties.
e) Reservations must be made for groups of 5-20 individuals, so the that pool will be appropriately staffed, and fees must be paid in advance. Only residents in good standing may hold parties at the pool.
4. Private Parties - Villages of Wellington residents in good standing may reserve the pool for private parties to begin when the pool closes for regular use at 8:00 p.m.. Pool lifeguard personnel will be used and a minimum of two lifeguards will be required for each party. The resident(s) renting the pool will be financially responsible for any damages that occur during their use of the facility. Fees are as follows:
a) A base rate of $150.00 is charged for a standard two hour party from 8:00PM to 10:00PM
b) An additional $50.00 per hour will be charged if guests remain after the first two hours.
c) If a large number of guests will be present, a third lifeguard may be scheduled at an additional $15.00 per hour. This decision will be made by pool management and based on the ages and number of swimmers who will be attending the party.
d) An additional cleaning deposit of $25.00 will be collected when the party is booked. This fee will be returned if the cabana area is cleaned thoroughly after usage.
e) ALL party fees must be paid at least 24 hours prior to the beginning of a private party.
5. ALL CHILDREN TWELVE YEARS OF AGE AND UNDER MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT, ADULT, OR RESPONSIBLE PERSON 14 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. Exceptions will be made only in cases where the child ten years or older has passed a swimming test administered by the pool management and is considered a competent swimmer. Parents are asked to arrange for a swim test for the child and sign a consent form after the swim test is passed giving permission for the child to swim without them present. THE POOL IS NOT TO BE USED AS A DAYCARE FACILITY! Children of any age who disobey lifeguards or otherwise abuse their pool privileges will be asked to leave the pool immediately and may not be allowed to visit the pool without a parent present.
6. Baby-sitters – A baby-sitter is an individual who is responsible for a child or children and who is working or on duty actively baby-sitting and is at least 14 years old.
Persons acting as baby-sitters for a member's child (or children) for whom they are responsible will be admitted at no charge.
a) The sitter, not a resident, must sign the guest register and indicate that he/she is the sitter.
b) The sitter must be in attendance at all times. Children in their charge may not be left unattended at any time.
c) A sitter may not be responsible for more than 4 children at one time while at the pool.
d) The sitter is allowed to swim, but must supervise the children at all times.
7. No smoking will be permitted in the pool area.
8. No pets will be permitted in the pool area.
9. Lost Articles - Staff will not accept responsibility for any articles left at the pool, bathhouse or park grounds. Articles of clothing, towels, swim gear, toys and other items left at the pool will be collected and retained 14 days. Abandoned articles not claimed within the 14 day period will either be disposed of or contributed to a charitable organization.
10. Hygiene: Swimmers will take a shower prior to entering the pool if deemed necessary. Heavy oils and any dirt should be removed before swimming.
11. Pool Toys - Air mattresses, large rafts, inner tubes, or other large unusual swimming impediments will be acceptable if the pool is not crowded. Personal flotation devices will not be permitted in the diving area. No hard balls of any kind (tennis balls, plastic, or hard rubber) will be allowed. Soft Nerf balls are permissible. Staff reserves the right to limit the use of water gun or super soaker toys.
12. Pool Phone: Members may use the phone in the cabana area only, and only for local calls. Please limit phone calls to three minutes. This phone will not be answered during swim times.
13. Guard/Pool Equipment: No swimmers will be allowed on the lifeguard stands; children who jump from the lifeguard stands will be asked to leave the pool immediately. Lifeguard equipment may only be used or moved by pool personnel. No clinging to or pulling on the floating rope is permitted.
14. Diving For the safety of pool patrons, only competent swimmers may use the diving board. Lifeguards may use their discretion when removing incompetent swimmers from the diving board/area at any time.
a) One diver is allowed on the board at a time.
b) Swimmers must wait until previous diver has reached the side before diving.
c) All divers must swim to the nearest ladder.
d) No hanging or sitting on the diving board.
e) No flotation devices are allowed in the diving area.
f) Behavior on or around the diving board deemed unsafe by pool personnel will not be permitted and must be stopped immediately.
15. Swimmers will not engage the lifeguards in lengthy conversations.
16. No swimming will be permitted unless a lifeguard is present.
17. No running is allowed in the pool area. Parents are encouraged to consider some type of footwear for children, as the pool deck can get extremely hot.
18. No one except pool employees or VOW Board of Directors will be allowed in the pool when the pool is closed. Trespassers will be dealt with severely. Parents of minors will be notified and legal action will be taken when necessary. Individuals found inside the facility when it is closed will be subject to prosecution and will lose their "Member in Good Standing" status. Use of the facilities will be revoked when this occurs.
19. Eating and drinking will be allowed only in designated areas. All discarded trash must be deposited in trash containers. No glass containers are allowed in the pool area at any time!
20. The pool office is for pool staff only and should not be entered by members or children.
21. Decisions regarding pool safety are at the discretion of the life guard(s) on duty. The lifeguard(s), after consultation with the pool manager, will decide the appropriate action in situations that they feel are unsafe. Potentially unsafe situations include, but are not limited to:
1) Dangerous weather;
2) Unsafe swimming conditions, such as too many swimmers per lifeguard, or unsafe pool chemical conditions;
3) Generally unsafe behavior by pool patrons.
22. The VoW swim team will have priority use of designated areas of the pool during swim practices and swim meets. Staff will make residents aware of the times and dates of these events, and residents are asked to allow the team to use portions of the pool as deemed necessary by pool management.
III. DRESS AND PERSONAL CONDUCT
1. Appropriate swim wear will be worn by swimmers. Thong bathing suits and other revealing swim wear are not considered appropriate and will not be allowed on pool premises.
2. Diaper-age children must wear swim diapers in the pool. No conventional or cloth diapers permitted.
3. Everyone using the pool will conduct themselves at all times in such a manner as to foster and promote their safety and well being and that of their fellow bathers. Safety rules will be strictly enforced and any unruly, boisterous, or dangerous conduct in or around the pool will subject the offender(s) to suspension of pool privileges.
4. Destruction of VOW property and or vandalism of such property will not be tolerated. Parents of minors will be notified and legal action will be taken when necessary.
5. Use of profane or obscene language or gestures will not be tolerated. Offenders will be subject to suspension of pool privileges.
6. Orders and instructions given by lifeguards will be obeyed implicitly. Failure to comply with such instructions or verbal abuse of pool personnel will not be tolerated and may result in suspension of pool privileges. Pool personnel are authorized to remove any person from the pool for violation of rules or for conduct detrimental to the health and safety of others. Lifeguards will report such removals to the management.
IV. Consequences for violations of rules or misconduct:
First Offense – Verbal warning by lifeguard or other pool official.
Second Offense - Removal from the pool and loss of pool privileges for two days.
Third Offense – Suspension of pool privileges for a one-week period.
Fourth Offense – Indefinite suspension of pool privileges, to be determined and reviewed by management.
Cases involving major offenses such as theft, damage, or destruction of swimming pool equipment, entering the pool when it is closed, fighting or other conduct considered violent or extreme, could result in suspension of pool privileges for the remainder of the pool season. Suspension in these cases will be determined by the management.
IV. PURPOSE AND AUTHORIZATION, BASIS AND APPLICATION, MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
These rules provide a basis for the management, supervision, use of, and membership in the Villages of Wellington Swimming Pool. Management reserves the right to add, delete, or amend these rules as necessary when it would be in the best interest of a majority of the membership.
These rules are predicated on the need to manage and regulate properly. All functions and activities related to the use of the swimming pool will be governed by these rules to insure the health and safety of all members using the facilities. Rules also set forth the discipline necessary to protect the rights and privileges of each member. Members are authorized and encouraged to recommend for consideration any changes that would further enhance operation and supervision of the swimming pool and would be in the best interest of a majority of the members. These rules apply equally to all members using the swimming pool and their guests.
Membership is automatic to all property owners of the Villages of Wellington,. All dues and assessments levied must be paid in full and be current or privileges will be revoked. Members who are delinquent on payment of Association dues will not appear on the "Members in Good Standing" list.
